It is said in the Talmud: “Whoever saves one life saves the world entire”. On October 15, at a small ceremony, The State of Israel and
    Yad Vashem
recognized Nora Visser of New Liskeard, ON, on behalf of her late parents, as Righteous Among the Nations, for saving Jews during the Holocaust.
Reinerus Hulsker and his wife Cornelia Hulsker (nee Schiess), a Dutch couple, hid Jews and saved their lives in WWII. The medal and certificate were presented by Consul General, Galit Baram of the Consulate General of Israel in Toronto and Western Canada, and Jonathan Allen from the
    Canadian Society for Yad Vashem
    .
Due to COVID-19, the ceremony was unusually small. However, greetings were sent by Canadian elected officials including: MP
    Anthony Rota
    , MPP
    Victor Fedeli
    , MPP
    John Vanthof,
North Bay Mayor Al McDonald, and Mayor Carman Kidd of New Liskeard.
Even in the darkest of times there are those who are shining examples of courage and humanity. The State of Israel and the Jewish people will forever be indebted to the Hulsker family.
