Once an Israeli citizen living abroad turns 16 and a half, they are obligated to establish their status with the Israel Defense Forces authorities. They must come to the Consulate in person to sign a form requesting to delay the start of their military service. Citizens under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
Citizens who live in distant locations may sign the forms in front of a notary public and send the signed forms to the Consulate via mail.
Please note – If the parents are divorced, and one of the parents lives in Israel, you must also submit divorce documents highlighting the section that indicates the parent living abroad has custody of the child.
Please be aware that the processing of the request for military deferral may take as long as six weeks.
