Applications for 2014 Youth UN Model

    Applications have opened for an Israeli delegate for this years Youth UN Model. If you are in High school years 11, 12 or 13 you are eligible to apply. The Israeli Embassy in Wellington will provide a scholarship covering the costs of the conference fee to the successful applicant. Furthermore, all those who apply for the Israeli delegate position will be given the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Livne and other Israeli diplomats here in Wellington. 

     

    The application requires that you write no more than one page on the following topic:
    The theme of this year's youth UN Model is conflict and reconciliation select one of the following UN resolutions regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict and discuss to what extent they illustrate either of these themes.
    a) Resolution 181
    The 1947 resolution that endorsed the partition plan for Palestine recommending the creation of independent Arab and Jewish States and the Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem.
    b) Resolution 242
    Issued after the 1967 war, when Israel captured the Sinai peninsula from Egypt, the Golan Heights from Syria and the West Bank from Jordan, it calls for the withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from the recently occupied territories and a "just settlement of the refugee problem.
    c) Resolution 338
    Issued after the 1973 Yom Kippur war, it reaffirmed 242 and called for its immediate implementation. It also speaks of the necessity for "sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries."
