Registration of Israeli Citizens Abroad

    In order to register a child who was born abroad to Israeli citizens, one of the Israeli parents and the child must appear in person before the diplomatic / consular representative at the embassy and implement the registration process.
    Appointments for this service are available upon request. To request an appointment for a citizenship, please email all the required documents on this page to consular@wellington.mfa.gov.il.
     
    Important Information Regarding the Process
     
     
    1.  The Israeli law states that an Israeli citizen must register their children up to 30 days from the day of birth.
    2.  The marital status of the Israeli parent must be updated in the population registry in Israel. If your marital status changed and is different than the status registered in the population registry in Israel, please apply for a marital status update prior to applying for a citizenship for your child.     3.  If both parents are Israeli citizens and are not married to each other, the father must add an additional declaration to the documentation. (To download the declaration, click here).
    4.  If one parent is Israeli, the other is not, and the parents are not married, the couple must add additional documents to provide a proof of mutual life. See a full list of optional proofs at the bottom of this page.
    5.  For applicants in age 28 years old and older, please do not contact the consular department for registration. You may proceed only with an external agency. (See: The Jewish Agency or Nefesh Be Nefesh).
    6.  Applicants in age 16.4 must add an additional form for military purposes. (For information regarding military status and to download the form, click here).
     
     
    Full List of Required Documents for Applying for a Citizenship
     
    1.  A clear scan of a Teudat Zehut or of the most recent Israeli passport (passport preferred) of both parents.
    *if one parent is not Israeli, attach a copy of their foreign passport
    2.  Declaration form for a newborn filled out (digitally preferred) and signed by the Israeli parent. (To download the form, click here).  
    3. The original birth certificate, verified with an apostille stamp - for more information on how to obtain an apostille in New-Zealand - click here
    4.  2 proofs of birth – see a list of valid proofs of birth below:
    Please note: proofs must be original and not a copy.

    First proof: Must attach one of the following:
    a.    A hospital discharge form signed by a doctor or a nurse
    b.    A delivery doctor’s discharge form signed by the doctor
     
    Please note: If both proofs from this list can be obtained, skip the list of “second proof”.

    Second proof: Choose one of the following:
    a.  Ultrasound scan from the 3rd trimester of the pregnancy stating the name of the mother and the date of the examination
    b.  Newborn identification card with the child’s fingerprints including the name of the mother and the child's details
     
    Application for a Passport after the Registration 
     
    1.  Application for an Israeli traveling document filled out (digitally preferred) and signed by both parents. (To download the application, click here).
    2.  2 recent passport pictures of the applicant on a white background and in size 2*2 inch
     
    Fees
     
     
    The registration process has no fee.

     Duration of Processing the Request
      
    An Israeli ID number will be given at the end of the appointment.
    Religion and nationality will be updated by the Ministry of Interior up to 6 months after the registration process.

    ***Proofs must be from the time of the pregnancy and after birth.
     
    1.  Apartment lease with the names of both partners
    2.  Bank statement of a mutual bank account
    3.  Tax return stating the names of both partners
    4.  Letters from close friends and family about the couple and their relationship from the time of pregnancy and after birth. Letters must be signed at a notary public
    5.  Pictures of the couple including dates (pictures from social media may be valid)
