General
- This service is provided by appointment only.
- This service allows for the update of marital status (married, divorced, widowed), name change or name choice and change of address for the purpose of postal services.
- In order to update your marital status a certificate indicating your new status must be provided. The certificate must be authenticated with an apostille. Information on apostille authentication can be found here.
- An application will be submitted to the Consulate. The change applied for will be made by the Ministry of Interior in Israel, about two (2) months after the application is received by the Consulate.
Required Documentation
- When applying to update marital status a photocopy of an Israeli passport is required. Additionally, a photocopy of the spouse’s passport (weather Israeli or not) us required.

An application for notification of a death, please click here. A copy of the of the deceased ID and a copy of the ID of the person reporting the death are required (Please note, if the reporting person and the deceased are Israeli citizens, the reporting person must include an application to update personal status in their request).
- When applying to update marital status a certificate indicating new status must be provided (marriage certificate, divorce agreement or any other official document). The certificate must be authenticated with an apostille.
- An Israeli citizen married to a non-Israeli applying to update marital status must include an affidavit signed by his/her non-Israeli spouse and a notary public in which the spouse attests to his/her previous marital status. The required affidavit can be found here. If the spouse is not an American citizen or was not born in the United States, a certificate from their country of origin indicating their previous personal status is required. In such cases, please contact us via email to find out more information before making an appointment at the embassy.
- The applicants might be asked to present more documents at the discretion of the Consul.
