Israeli embassies abroad provide Israeli citizens and/or Israeli residents staying overseas with certain services required by the provisions of the Population Registration Law.
You can apply to our consular to have your information updated or to receive documentation regarding your existing status held by the ministry (including birth certificates, death certificates, citizenship, or a record of entries and exits from Israel). By law, Israeli citizens must report any change in their marital status or the birth of a new child within 30 days of the event.
Following the submission of an application, certificates will be processed by Israel (this takes between four and eight weeks). Inquiries regarding the progress of your application to our consular section should only be made four weeks after applying
Application to obtain an existing birth certificate / death certificate / record of entries & exits from Israel
This is section outlines the application process to receive one of the following certificate only:
• A Registration extract - 2 types:
1) Standard - incluse the following: Israeli ID number, last name, first name, parents' names, date of birth, place of birth,
date of Aliya, citizenship, marital status, address.
2) Extended - incluse the following: all the Standard details and Previous Names, children, spouses and parents detalis,
previous addresses, the date of marriage / divorce / widowhood, religion and nationality

NB. This application is only for those who wish to apply for a pre-existing certificate. For example, if you need proof of your birth certificate, marriage certificate or a family members death certificate. This application is NOT for those seeking to declare a change in status such as the birth of a child, a marriage, divorce etc.

4. Provide courier bag for certificates return
If you have applied for your certificates by post OR if you cannot return to the Embassy in person to collect your certificates you must include an additional courier bag with the rest of your documentation (so that the consular can return your certificate to you via mail). The additional courier bag can either be sent with the rest of your documentation by post or brought to the embassy in person.
The courier bag must fit the following requirements:
a) It must be an unsealed prepaid New Zealand post courier bag, complete with courier signature required for tracking.
b) The courier bag must have your name and postal address filled out on the front (ready for the consular to return it to you).
c) If you live at a rural address please insure you purchase a rural delivery prepaid ticket.
NB. You are responsible for the address to be clearly printed on the bag. The Embassy will not take any responsibility for incorrectly addressed or ineligible printing on the bag. Be sure to take note of the tracking number. Delays in the sending of your documents may occur if any of the above is incorrect.
You can not send cash or cheque by mail - You must pay by direct bank deposit.
Certificate Attesting to Israeli Citizenship or Non-Citizenship
Under Section 15 of the Citizenship Law, 5712 -1952 (Consolidated Version), an Israeli citizen is entitled to receive a certificate from the Minister of the Interior attesting to his Israeli citizenship. The certificate can be obtained in Hebrew and English, as well as the date on which citizenship was conferred. Those interested in the latter must make a special note of this. Sometimes local authorities will require certification of Israel citizenship and in these cases a valid Israeli passport alone will not suffice. The certificate is usually takes within eight to twelve weeks to arrive.
To Apply

Notification of divorce:
An Israeli citizen who was divorced abroad must visit the Embassy in person.
Note: If both partners are Israeli citizens both must visit the Embassy. However, if only one partner is Israeli then only that partner
must visit the Embassy.
a. Divorce certificate or court order regarding the divorce.
b. If the divorce was done through Rabinical court out of Israel- The court order must be verified through the Israeli
Rabinical court.
4. If the spouse is not Israeli, a photocopy of the photo page of the spouse’s passport must be attached.
The service is provided free of charge.
Each partner can inform carry a family name from his marriage or dovorce under these alternatives:
1. To carry his name and return to carry any name and had been without restriction in terms of repeat selections name.
2. Select the current name of his / her spouse.
3. Add the family name his / her spouse for the current family.
4. Choose a common choice of a new name after marriage.
5. Add a new name current names of both spouses.

Registering a child who was born abroad to Israeli citizens
In order to register a child who was born abroad to Israeli citizens, one of the Israeli parents and the child must appear in person before the diplomatic / consular representative at the embassy and implement the registration process.
NB: In the event that the mother is not an Israeli citizen, and the parents of the child are not married or the child was born less than 10 months after their marriage, the Israeli father must contact the embassy for further instruction before appearing to register the child.

Notification of change of name
An Israeli citizen who wishes to change his first or last name must appear in person before the diplomatic / consular representative at the embassy and implement the registration process.
The embassy will send the form to the Ministry of the Interior in Israel. When the change of name is approved, the passport will be updated accordingly (this takes between eight and twelve weeks).
When a citizen who has changed his name returns to Israel, he must go to the Ministry of the Interior to have the change made in his identity card.

Renouncing Israeli citizenship
The process of renouncing Israeli citizenship is intended for an Israeli citizen living abroad who wishes to renounce his Israeli citizenship for any reason whatsoever. This is implemented by giving a declaration of the desire to renounce the citizenship, along with relevant documents and an application to the Ministry of the Interior for its authorization.
It is important to note that the decision to authorize a renunciation of citizenship is made at the sole discretion of the Minister of the Interior or anyone appointed by him, and as long as such authorization is not given, the person who made the declaration is still an Israeli citizen. It should be noted that there have been cases in which the minister saw fit, for various reasons, not to authorize a renunciation of citizenship.
A person who wishes to submit an application to renounce Israeli citizenship must report in person to the Consular Department at the mission and implement the following:
• Notify the Population Registry on his personal status up to that point in time
• Establish his/her military status
• Present authorization of other citizenship or an official letter from the local government promising that local citizenship will be granted (the letter must be valid for at least two years).
• Present life center your life in New-Zealand permanent residency in the country (rent, bills, work, study...) - Present at least two

It is very important to fill out all sections of the form, otherwise the Ministry of the Interior will not handle the application.
The process of renouncing citizenship cannot be implemented by mail. The presence of the applicant is mandatory!
In the declaration section at the bottom of the form - Declaration of Renunciation of Israeli Citizenship - the signatory undertakes, before any use of his Israeli passport, to check with the mission whether his Israeli citizenship has been cancelled.
