Following the introduction of Israeli biometric passports on June 1st 2017 changes have been made regarding the issuing of Israeli passports in New Zealand. In accordance with these changes the Embassy of Israel in New Zealand will issue passports as follows:
a) Israelis living outside of Israel – will be issued a standard (non-biometric) passport/provisional-passport for up to 5 years.
b) Israelis who are abroad temporarily (tourist, students etc.) – will be issued a standard (non-biometric) passport/provisional-passport for one year.
This is to say, the new biometric passports (valid for 10 years) will not be issued in New Zealand and can only be obtained in Israel. Israeli citizens wanting to apply for a new biometric passport should do so when visiting Israel.
Please note that Israeli citizens are required by law to enter and exit Israel with an Israeli travel document.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Most of the countries of the world and their police routinely report daily to the Interpol headquarters the loss or theft of passports of citizens of the world. These reports automatically enter a database at international border crossings - therfore in the event that an Israeli citizen informs the Israeli Police or the local police of the loss of his/her passport, and his passport is subsequently found by him, he must know that his passport has already been reported to Interpol as lost and registered in the world's lost passport database.
The passport is NO LONGER VALID and CAN NOT BE USED in the future and is expected to delay entry / exit at the border crossings in many countries. In the above case, the citizen is required to obtain a travel document at the nearest Israeli mission.
