On February 18, 2015, Consul General Roey Gilad visited the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his trip, the Consul General spoke to a large group of students, professors and community members about the current challenges in the modern Middle East. The talk, which was sponsored by The Center for Middle East and North African Studies, as well as all of the pro-Israel student groups on campus, was very well received and attracted a diverse audience.
In addition to his public lecture, the Consul General met with many community and campus leaders, including: Congresswoman Debbie Dingell; The Michigan Chronicle editor, Bankole Thompson; and he recorded an interview for Michigan Public Radio.
The Consul General was also pleased to meet with the University of Michigan Provost, Martha Pollack; the director for the Center for Middle East and North African Studies, Juan Cole; as well as a group of professors from the School of Public Health and Ross School of Business, who are leading the way with U of M academic partnerships with Israeli institutions in their fields. The Consul General also met privately with the pro-Israel student leaders and Hillel Staff.
The Consul General was very impressed with the high level of activity and interest related to Israel that was present throughout the community and looks forward to returning to Ann Arbor in the near future.
