On December 3, 2014, Consul General Roey Gilad visited the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The Consul General met with Vice President for Academic Affairs Christophe Pierre to discuss potential collaborations between the University of Illinois and Israeli academic institutions. He also met with faculty and administrators in the schools of Journalism and Law, the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Illinois Strategic International Partnerships, and was a guest speaker at a lunch with students hosted by the campus Chabad.
The Consul General also gave a geo-political briefing and answered questions about the challenges and opportunities facing Israel and the Middle East to more than sixty students at an event sponsored by the Illini Students Supporting Israel (SSI) chapter, IlliniPAC, and the Political Science Department. Following this event, the Consul General had a private meeting with student leaders on campus to extend his appreciation for their hard work.
