The Embassy of Israel in New Zealand was the first in the world to host Zikaron BaSalon (Hebrew for “remembrance in the living room”). His Excellency Ambassador Ran Yaakoby, members of the Diplomatic Corps, His Worship Mayor Andy Foster, the Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt, members of the Wellington Jewish Community and other distinguished guests, shared personal memories and stories connected to the Holocaust, as well as discussing its implications, tying into the evening's events the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It was a deeply moving and powerful time and hopefully the first of many more to come in New Zealand.
