The New
Zealand Model United Nations 2018 has just concluded and the Israel Embassy in
Wellington sponsored a pair of bright and determined students at the event.
Participants
at the Model UN learned about debate strategies, negotiations and ethics, and
listened to many keynote speakers discuss their respective fields. The four-day
event also gave participants lessons in public speaking and ethical decision-making
in order to make better-prepared global citizens.
“[The
conference] has further inspired me to make a positive impact on our global
society through diplomacy. I hope to one day represent New Zealand with pride”
said Milla, one of the participants on the program.
“From my
experience acting as the ‘honourable delegate of Israel,’ I’ve come to
appreciate the open, welcoming culture of Israel, its wonderful beaches and
scientific prowess…” remarked Jason, another recipient of the scholarship. “I
am forever grateful and humbled to have been a recipient of the Israeli Embassy
Scholarship.”
Both
Ambassador Dr. Itzhak Gerberg and Deputy Chief of Mission Kasa Bainesay-Harbor
met with the pair and discussed Israel’s role on the global stage and its
world-beating technology, amongst other things.
