Bridges for Peace New Zealand celebrated the 70th anniversary of the modern State of Israel this week with a special guest – the Israel Ambassador to New Zealand Dr Itzhak Gerberg.

A warm reception was held and with about 150 in attendance, Dr Gerberg addressed the audience with a speech about Israel, its history and the region in general.

A beautiful cake in the shape of a Magen David, or Star of David, was presented and served to all those in attendance. The event, organized by Mr. Brian Ashford, was a delightful chance to celebrate the independence of Israel in Northland.

“I want to thank my friends in Bridges for Peace New Zealand in Whangarei for their warm welcome and the amazing celebration of Israel’s 70th Anniversary,” said Dr Gerberg. “I was especially moved to hear the beautiful performance of a song that was written during the Holocaust in a concentration camp. It was an honor to give a speech on Israel and meet so many lovely people.”
