A delegation of 5 members of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) led by MK Dr. Nachman Shai, arrived in South Africa to promote dialogue, understanding and cooperation between Israel and South Africa. The delegation met with leaders from across the South African political spectrum: Senior ANC member, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, former President Kgalema Motlanthe, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, and Mmusi Maimane, head of the DA. The delegation held meetings in Parliament and met with members of the DA, Cope, ACDP, IFP and FF+.
The delegation, a product of cooperation between the Israeli Knesset, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jewish Agency, also met with the leaders of the thriving Jewish community of South Africa. They have also had positive engagements with the key figures of the Christian and business communities.
“The delegation proves that dialogue is key in increasing understanding of the challenges and opportunities between our great nations” says Ambassador Keinan. The delegation also reiterated its commitment to sharing Israel’s expertise and experience in agriculture, water, and hi-tech. The embassy continues to explore a plethora of avenues for cooperation between Israel and South Africa and this delegation is a great step towards that goal.
