    Military Service Status

Israel has mandatory army service for all citizens living in Israel and abroad. Even if they live abroad permanently.

However, the army does recognize citizens permanently living abroad, and if they so request, will defer and in some cases will not require army service all together.

In order to settle your conscription status, you must arrive at the consular department from the age of 16 and 4 months.

For information regarding military service/status, please contact the following
email address: Joinidf@digital.idf.il or via the "mitgaisim" App.

    The procedure is as follows:

    1.      Fill out form “7202” to request a delay or cancellation of military service.
    2.      The applicant and one of his Israeli parents must come personally to the consular department, with their Israeli passports.
    3.      You must bring with you a document proving your permanent life abroad (for example: letter from the school stating year-end date, permanent address approval from a municipality, etc.)
    4. For parents who are divorced, please ensure that a custody document is also submitted.
    5. Applicants must bring and send via email their passports of both parents and the child itself as well as any other passports they obtain from other countries.

    Please note:
    1.      You can find more information at the IDF website
    2.      When applying for army status, all requirements and restrictions will be explained to the applicant regarding visiting Israel. The compliance to these laws are on the applicant (and his parents until the applicant reaches the age of 18), and all will be explicitly written on the letter received when the military status is confirmed.
    3.      You cannot get an extended travel document/passport if the applicant is at military conscription age, and has not yet settled his military status. We recommend not planning travels to Israel until the military status has been confirmed.
