Israel is a world leader in water-related technologies.
The extent of the Israeli water industry exports stands at over 1.4 billion dollars annually and is mainly related to emitter products for agriculture, water management solutions and treatment but also includes other fields. Over 600 companies operate in this field including approximately 100 start-up companies dealing in a variety of products and technologies.
An important field in which Israel has essentially the sole experience in the world is the subject of wastewater treatment, purification and water reuse in agriculture and industry. Israel has been reusing its wastewater for agricultural irrigation for over 60 years and now reuses close to 80% of its wastewater. The closest-runner up worldwide stands at roughly 15%.
Due to the lack of available water in the world and the desire of most nations to improve their utilization of existing water sources, find alternative water sources and promote new technology, Israel is turning to countries around the world to propose collaboration on the transfer of information of existing technologies, the development of new technologies and the preparation of national and possibly international standardization, at a later date, in this field.
Technologies existing in the Israeli water market:
· Water Leakage Technologies (identification, treatment and prevention)
· Water Safety / Security Technologies
· Advanced Wastewater Treatment Technologies (post-secondary treatment)
· Advanced Desalination Technologies
· Novel Water Production Technologies
· System Integrators
· Biological Arrays Technologies (e.g algae harvesting)
· Machinery and Filtration Equipment
These technologies, and others can be of crucial importance in drought-stricken areas, such as California and the Southwest United States as a whole.
