New ambassadors to Israel

    Five new Ambassadors presented their credentials today to President Shimon Peres. They are:

    • H.E. Ms. Gao Yanping, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China
    • H.E. Mr. Sergey Yakolev Yakolevich, Ambassador of Russia
    • H.E. Mr. David Oladipo Obasa, Ambassador of Nigeria
    • H. E. Mrs. Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, Ambassador of Finland
    • H.E. Mr. Generoso de Guzman Calonge, Ambassador of the Philippines

    During the meeting between President Peres and the new ambassador from China, Ambassador Yangping said that she came to Israel to strengthen and improve strategic relations between China and Israel and that she will continue to do anything she can to strengthen the warm connection between the people of China and the people of Israel. President Peres promised to help her accomplish her tasks and said that relations between China and Israel are extremely important.

    The new Chinese Ambassador discussed trade relations between the countries and said: "Israel is an example of a country that has made great achievements in the fields of science, economy, and technology and we will be happy to learn from you in these areas and cooperate on broadening the scope of our joint economic activities." In response the President emphasized that he hoped that in the coming year the trade between Israel and China will double from $6 billion to $12 billion a year.

    Ambassador Yingpan brought a personal invitation from Chinese President Hu Jintao to President Peres, for an official visit to China. President Peres responded by saying: "It is a great honor to receive a personal invitation to visit China. We will work to find a suitable date for the visit."​
