Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabi Ashkenazi today (Sunday, 7 March 2021) hosted the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Araújo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem. This is the third visit of the Brazilian FM to Israel in his current position.
During the visit, FM Araújo is expected to meet with officials of the Israeli healthcare system on the backdrop of the rise in morbidity in Brazil.
FM Ashkenazi: “We are working together to increase bilateral cooperation in the war on the virus. We will assist Brazil in any way possible and will examine ways to increase research and development of drugs and other solutions for dealing with the virus.”
During the meeting, FM Ashkenazi emphasized the deep friendship between Brazil and Israel since before the establishment of the state. He also noted the partnership that has been developing over the past few years under the Bolsonaro administration, which demonstrates its support of Israel at every opportunity.
The foreign ministers discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of economics, technology, and health, especially in light of the harsh consequences of the corona pandemic.
FM Ashkenazi presented to his counterpart the many changes that have taken place in the Middle East following the signing of the peace agreements and normalization and emphasized the importance of a united and aggressive stance against the Iranian threat.
FM Ashkenazi: “In recent days, we have witnessed an increase in Iranian efforts to undermine regional security and stability. Iran’s fingerprints are clearly identifiable in recent attempts on Israeli targets around the world. The international community must ensure that Iran ceases its efforts to reach the threshold of military nuclear technology and fulfills its commitments to the last detail.”
