We all know those typical dramatic scenes from the movies, a big crown gathers in a tent, on the stage a charismatic spiritual healer, he comes down towards the first raw, touches a man in a wheelchair and tells him “Son, rise up and walk”. The Paraplegic man miraculously rises up, the crowd goes wild, people cry, Hallelujah!

Until recently, the only way that a paraplegic person could walk again was through a miracle but that has now changed thanks to the incredible innovative solution created by the Israeli company Rewalk.

The device developed by Rewalk gives people the ability to actually walk despite being paralyzed. That is achieved thanks to an “external robot” connected to the body like an outer skeleton that moves the hips and knees. The system is controlled by the patient via sensors and a computer.

For the past several years this device is being used by people all over the world, including in Europe, who suffered from spinal-cord injuries or other types of paralysis. The results of this constitute an enormous and positive life-changing opportunity for the people using it. Indeed it gives them the ability to actually walk, stand, climb stairs and more.

Two versions of the device currently exist. The first allows people to walk in their daily routine and the second is used for clinical rehabilitation of patients.

Believe it or not, in the UK, two users of Rewalk have even been able to walk a full marathon. One of these people later tweeted the following.

“ Omg I’ve Done It. The 1st paralyzed man to complete The @LondonMarathon in Its history. The Fastest @ReWalk_Robotics user to complete a full marathon in the world in 26.5Hours; Raising Money For @BrainTumourOrg sponsors @trampmenswear

The device was originally developed by the Israeli company Argo Medical Technologies which was founded by Israeli Amit Goffer which is himself a Quadriplegic after having been the victim of a car accident. The company has recently received the first 5 million dollars of a 20 million investment plan that will allow the company to develop further and for the product to be offered across more markets. The robotic device is currently being distributed across Europe, the United States, Australia and New Zealand

The benefits of Rewalk for its users are phenomenal. Testimonies show that the positive effect of the usage of that device go way beyond expectations. It’s doing wonders on the physical, psychological and even cardiovascular aspects of the patients life.
