Women have always held an important position within the Israeli society, a prime example is Golda Meir, prime minister from 1969 – 1974. Israeli women have born their full share of civil responsibilities including Military service from the first days of the country in 1948. In fact, Israeli is the only state where women conscription to the army is mandatory, and the number of women in combat rolls is not only growing but in accedes the ratio per capita of women fighters in other army including the US army.
One of latest’s national pride in Israel is the significant increase in women wanting to join combat units in the military field, from 547 in 2012 to 2656 more women in 2017 and 1000 more last summer. “In the past month, another 1,000 female soldiers drafted into field units — an all-time record. Gender equality is good for everyone. A happy recruitment to you all,” Deputy Minister Michael Oren tweeted
The integration of women in Israeli society might start at the Army service but is certainly doesn’t end there, the president of the Israeli supreme court is a woman, Judge Esther Hayut and women in Israel represent 65% of the civil service sector.
The Israeli missions in Brussels (both the one to the EU and the one to Belgium) has 5 women diplomats of the 10 diplomats posted in the missions.
