Israel hosts Basketball without Borders Europe

  •
Israel witnessed two very exciting basketball months with Basketball without Borders (BWB) Europe and the group phase of FIBA EuroBasket 2017. BWB is the NBA’s and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program and this year’s Europe edition brought together 60 top young female and male players from across Europe in Israel. They learned directly from NBA and FIBA players, legends and coaches and competed against each other.

The 16th edition of Basketball without Borders (BWB) Europe was held in August at the Wingate Institute in Netanya, marking the first time that Israel is hosting the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) global basketball development and community outreach program.

BWB Europe brings together 60 top male and female players born in 2000 from across Europe to learn directly from NBA and FIBA players, legends and coaches and to compete against the best young players from the continent. This summer’s edition is held in cooperation with the Israel Basketball Association.

FIBA National Federations & Sport Director Zoran Radovic said that BWB in August and then the group phase of FIBA EuroBasket 2017 in September “will make for two very exciting basketball months in Israel as well as put a focus on European and local basketball heroes.”

“Basketball without Borders is an amazing program,” said Omri Casspi — the only active NBA player from Israel — who is involved in this year’s BWB program. “It’s great to see the NBA and FIBA recognize Israel’s basketball development efforts by hosting the camp there for the first time. I look forward to working with Europe’s top male and female players and showing them the beauty and culture of my home country.”
