China-Israel Innovation Hub was opened on 5th Dec. Dr. Eyal Propper, the Consul General of Israel in Shanghai, Mr. Ami Appelbaum, chairman of Israel Innovation Authority, Mr. Li Qiang, the Shanghai Party Secretary and Mr. Ying Yong, the Shanghai Mayor attended the opening ceremony. Dr. Eyal Propper also delivered an opening remark.

The opening of the innovation hub is a major step in Shanghai’s implementation of a national strategy to promote Chinese and Israeli scientific and technological innovation.

Dr. Eyal Propper, the Consul General of Israel in Shanghai, said that he was very happy to witness the opening of the China-Israel (Shanghai) Innovation Hub. The friendship between China and Israel went back to ancient times. During World War II, twenty thousands of Jews fled to Shanghai. They were kindly accepted by the Shanghai people and provided them with safe shelters and food. In June last year, Mayor Ying Yong led a Shanghai delegation to visit Israel and signed a series of bilateral cooperation treaties. Israel was a famous country of innovation and entrepreneurship. I sincerely hoped that the China-Israel (Shanghai) Innovation Hub could add new meaning to the long-term innovation cooperation and traditional friendship between Shanghai and Israel.

Twenty companies or institutions, 10 of them from Israel, will be based at the China-Israel Innovation Hub, on the former site of Shanghai Hero Pen Factory in northwest downtown, now renamed Hero World.

Leading Israeli incubators, such as Ehealth and Trendlines, which focus on medical and agri-food tech, will operate at the hub in the under-construction Taopu Smart City, serving Israeli high-tech and startup firms.
