The Government of Israel, through MASHAV - Israel’s agency for international cooperation development and IsraAID launched the ‘Ebola Outbreak 2014 Appeal’ so to provide assistance to communities affected by the Ebola virus.
BACKGROUND
The current Ebola outbreak is the largest in history. More than 5,000 people have died and over 9,000 cases have been reported across seven countries. This is an escalating humanitarian crisis, with around 1,000 new cases identified each week. In Liberia and Sierra Leone, two of the hardest-hit countries, villages are being isolated, hospitals have no capacity to deal with the number of Ebola patients, and food shortages are expected. Children are some of the worst affected, and over 4,000 children have been orphaned.
ACTIVITIES
In response to urgent pleas from the international community IsraAID is partnership with MASHAV and the Government of Israel is providing much needed assistance to Ebola affected communities in Western Africa. IsraAID is already working on the ground providing pycho-social assistance to service providers and affected communities.
MASHAV will be sending more than 2 million shekels’ worth of medical clinics, as well as a technical team to build the clinics. IsraAID will work alongside MASHAV and offer medical aid while working with other international medical aid agencies among them the World Health Organization. We call on the Jewish Community to contribute to our Israeli efforts on the ground.
