  •   "Leaving a Positive Footprint"
  •

    APRIL 21 - 26, 2013
    JERUSALEM INTERNATIONAL YMCA, ISRAEL
    Key Themes

-Equity and Freedom of Worship in the Public Domain
-The Interface Between the City & the Metropolitan Region
-The Challenges of Infrastructure in Historic Pilgrim Cities

In November 2011, in an initiative backed by ARC (Alliance of Religions and Conservation) www.arcworld.org and ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) www.iclei.org, Jerusalem became a founding member of the Green Pilgrimage Network – a network of cities and sites throughout the world that are pilgrim destinations to initiate an innovative and creative global forum of cities, sites and communities around the world that are pilgrim destinations.

While the GPN provides a meeting ground for both cities and faiths, the case of Jerusalem is unique since, down the ages, Jews, Christians and Muslims from all over the world have made their way to Jerusalem. It is this triple identity that provides a special challenge on the one hand, and a remarkable opportunity on the other.

The impact of the network should reach beyond the member cities and sites, appealing to faith leaders and to the pilgrims themselves to integrate green ethical standards into their spiritual experience, and subsequently into their daily lives.

Jerusalem will welcome over 600 entrepreneurs, innovators,
and faith and community leaders, who share the goal of treasuring
our heritage whilst moving into a greener future.
The Symposium, hosted by Green Pilgrim Jerusalem,
will showcase and share Jerusalem’s strategies that
Achieve sustained urban, economic and social development
Create successful, equitable sharing of the public domain
Stimulate eco-tourism and inspirational, spiritual experiences
It will provide a unique, opportunity for networking, dialogue and peer exchange.
