Deputy Ambassador of Israel to Kenya, Mr. Yaki Lopez along with out-going area MP Hon. Johnstone Muthama, inaugurated a new secondary school in the community of Mwatati, Matungulu District, Machakos County. It was joy and excitement that members of the community witnessed the opening of the initial phase of the school, four classrooms, fully constructed with advanced technology produced by the Israeli company Anyway. The inaugration took place on Monday 25th February, 2013.
The bricks used in construction of the school were made in a special process by mixing local soil from the area with a special chemical produced by Anyway. The mixture is then compressed with a block making machine imported from Israel and allowed to dry, resulting in firm and durable blocks. It is estimated that this process reduces the cost of production and construction by approximately 30%. An additional advantage of this innovative process is the creation of jobs for the local communities in the form of brickmaking and construction. The process is also environmentally friendly.
During the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Ambassador Lopez announced, on behalf of the Embassy of Israel, a donation of a Farmers Kit to the school, complete with a greenhouse, a collapsible water tank, seeds for the initial crops, and a drip irrigation system. Training on how to efficiently utilize the greenhouse will also be offered. The goal of this donation is to enable the school to assist its surrounding community in improving food security. The system will also enable the school to offer its students a curriculum in agricultural studies.
