The Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest is looking for a dynamic, creative team-player with a solid background in project management and an interest in the arts/cultural scene of Chicago (and ideally the Midwest at large). The ideal candidate is an organized, self-motivated, experienced professional with strong leadership and public relations skills who is interested in promoting fresh, cutting-edge Israeli culture and artists.
The Director of Cultural Affairs initiates and promotes cultural programming that communicates the strength of Israeli arts and culture and the multicultural diversity within Israel, while understanding its role in overall public diplomacy. The position will work closely with the Consul for Public Affairs and other Consulate departments to initiate and support Israeli events at museums, festivals, theatres, cultural centers, and college campuses throughout an 11-state region.
Qualifications:
· Project management or curatorial experience in a relevant cultural field
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and network with collaborative cultural partners
· Willing to take creative and innovative approaches to projects
· Able to bring new ideas while working within established guidelines
· Ability to use cultural ideas and programs to connect with multicultural audiences and targeted communities
· Added value if candidate has working knowledge of Israel's arts and cultural scene
· Able to create a marketing plan and develop promotional/publicity materials to support cultural programs/events
· A record of project management experience- including the handling of budgetary responsibilities and the ability to multitask
· A strong foundation in social media and other cutting-edge publicity methods appealing to young, hip, and diverse crowds
· A high level of enthusiasm regarding Israel
