Chicago athletic team wins medals at the Maccabiah

    ​Scott Plonsker’s come from behind win earns a gold medal for United States in quadrennial international competition.

     
    Scott Plonsker, expecting to compete in the junior division, was moved to the open (adult) bracket just before the games began. He won all his preliminary matches to move into the championship bout in his weight division against a man from the nation of Georgia.
     
    Plonsker fell behind early but overtook his opponent on points to earn a gold medal for himself and the United States.
     

     

  • Ethan Kahn from Chicago Wins two Gold and one Bronze

    Ethan Kahn won Gold Medals in 50m and 100m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle Relay and a Bronze in 200m Freestyle.



    Ethan, along with his brother Jonathan, started swimming competitively in grade school.  They swam with two renowned Chicago Park District teams, Portage Park and Shebonah Park.  When Ethan joined Jonathan in high school at Francis W. Parker, they started the school’s first swim team,  practicing with the Latin School team. Ethan went on to swim for the University of Pennsylvania team for four years. He has never stopped swimming, continuing intensive training and competitions, including several Triathalons.

    Ethan is now at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv, swimming with the USA Masters team. To date, he has won a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and a gold in the 200m Breaststroke.  He has several events to go this week. His parents, Ruth and David Kahn, and his wife, Cathy are all with him in Tel Aviv cheering him on and reporting back to his very proud family in Chicago, New York and Florida.
