H.E. Oded Joseph, hosted partners at his residence to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on an initiative that will ensure food security, in Embu County and Kenya as a whole. This initiative is a partnership of the Embassy of Israel, an Israeli NGO Start-Up Nation Central, Don Bosco Tech Africa, Embu County Government, CultivAid, Water 4 Mercy and the Sygenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture.
This partnership will see the launch of the Israel-Kenya Don Bosco Agricultural Innovation and Technology Center (AITEC – EMBU). Farmers from Embu County will enroll at this center, and will be introduced to Israeli agricultural technological farming methods, before passing on their knowledge to other local farmers. The programme is designed to have a ‘multiplier effect,’ enabling Israeli innovation to reach smallholder farmers, across Embu County. It is hoped that the model will be replicated elsewhere in Kenya after around two and a half years of operation.
"We are glad to be part of this process through this impactful partnership, in the field of Agriculture. This initiative will present immense potential in food sufficiency in Kenya and in the region. The goodwill of the Partners and the efforts of the farmers will bolster the cooperation that exists between our two nations and boost Kenya’s Economic power. We look forward to advancing together this sustainable Food Security project, by utilizing innovative Israeli agritech solutions," says Amb. Oded Joseph.
