The Ambassador of the State of Israel, Amb. Oded Joseph together with the Principal Secretary for Housing Mr. Charles Hinga, went to Kiambiu Slums in Eastleigh, in May 2020, for a donation of food packs, in the spirit of Ramadhan, to the needy residents of Kiambiu slums in Eastleigh- Nairobi. They also donated special face masks for Police Officers and Medical Staff and the National Youth Service (NYS), on the front line.
This cooperation is in a bid to support to President Uhuru #KaziMtaani-National Hygiene Programme. It is partnership with the Kenya Government, the Embassy and MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) and Kenya Charity Sweepstake (KCS).
The Embassy, MASHAV and KCS, will also support the programme by funding the small-scale tailors residing in the informal settlements, in the eight counties affected by COVID-19. The tailors have been identified by the government to produce up to 250,000 face masks in a day, for their neighbourhoods.
The Embassy is as well seeking to empower the MASHAV alumni who have trained in Israel on sustainable programmes for communities, through supporting them economically, to prepare food packs and masks, in an effort to contribute towards the Embassy’s efforts of collaborating with the government, against COVID-19.
“Combined efforts in the fight against COVID-19, will yield faster results to a bruised economy and will create formidable alliances post COVID-19. The Embassy is proud to be part of this programme,” says Amb. Oded.
