Registration of Israeli Citizens Abroad

    Important information regarding the process​
    • The Israeli law states that an Israeli citizen must register their children up to 30 days from the day of birth.

    • The marital status of the Israeli parent must be updated in the population registry in Israel. If your marital status changed and is different than the status registered in the population registry in Israel, please apply for a marital status update prior to applying for a citizenship for your child.     • If both parents are Israeli citizens and are not married to each other, the father must add an additional declaration to the documentation. (To download the declaration, click here).

    • If one parent is Israeli, the other is not, and the parents are not married, the couple must add additional documents to provide a proof of mutual life. See a full list of optional proofs at the bottom of this page.

    • For applicants in age 28 years old and older, please do not contact the consular department for registration. You may proceed only with an external agency. (See: The Jewish Agency or Nefesh Be Nefesh).

    • Applicants in age 16.4 must add an additional form for military purposes. (For information regarding military status and to download the form, click here).
     

    Full list of required documents to apply for a citizenship
    • A clear scan of a Teudat Zehut or of the most recent Israeli passport (passport preferred) of both parents. If one parent is not Israeli, attach a copy of their foreign passport.
       
    • Declaration form for a newborn filled out and signed by the Israeli parent. (To download the form, click here).  

    • Application for an Israeli traveling document filled out and signed by both parents. (To download the application, click here).

    • Two recent passport pictures of the applicant on a white background and in size 2*2 inch

    • Birth certificate (extended form) of the applicant sealed with apostille seal (for information on how to obtain an apostille sealPlease note: 
      • Apostille seal can only be obtained in the states that originally issued the birth certificate.
      • Please make sure the apostille page is attached to the birth certificate. An apostille page that is not attached to the birth certificate is not valid for the process

    • Two proofs of birth – see a list of valid proofs of birth below:
      Please note: proofs must be original and not a copy.
      • ​​First proof: Must attach one of the following:
        • A hospital discharge form signed by a doctor or a nurse
        • A delivery doctor’s discharge form signed by the doctor
          ​Please note: If both proofs from this list can be obtained, skip the list of “second proof”.
      • Second proof: Choose one of the following:
        • Ultrasound scan from the 3rd trimester of the pregnancy stating the name of the mother and the date of the examination
        • Newborn identification card with the child’s fingerprints including information connecting the parents to the newborn

    • If the mother is Israeli and does not obtain a US citizenship or a green card, the mother must add an i94 form. 


    Fees
    The registration process has no fee.

    Duration of processing the request
    An Israeli ID number will be given at the end of the appointment.
    Religion and nationality will be updated by the Ministry of Interior up to 6 months after the registration process.


    Full list of proofs of mutual life
    Choose 3 proofs from the list below. Proofs must be from the time of the pregnancy and after birth.
    • Apartment lease with the names of both partners
    • Bank statement of a mutual bank account
    • Tax return stating the names of both partners
    • Letters from close friends and family about the couple and their relationship from the time of pregnancy and after birth. Letters must be signed at a notary public
    • Pictures of the couple including dates (pictures from social media may be valid)
