As an annual event, this year, in the afternoon of 27/1 at the College of Art, No.7 Hai Ba Trung, the Embassy of Israel, in cooperation with the United Nations Office in Hanoi and Institute for America and Middle East Studies held a Holocaust Remembrance event with the theme "Music in Times of Tragedy", which is in accordance with UN's theme for Holocaust Remembrance Day 2016: “The Holocaust and Human Dignity”.
Ms Meirav Eilon Shahar, Ambassdor of Israel expressed: " the Jewish people have been tormented, exiled and persecuted but we never gave up. In the ghettos and death camps, Jewish people maintained their human dignity, also through the music. Music become the survival tools for their human spirit" .
The guest speaker from Israel is Dr. Amit Weiner, Lecturer at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. He presented about Jewish culture life in the Ghettos, and play pieces of music composed by Jewish musician who were murdered during the Holocaust.
This is a great opportunity for the Vietnamese academia to learn about the Holocaust, to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and to apprehend how Holocaust victims were able to maintain their human dignity. Similar events will be held at British Vietnamese International School (BVIS) and United Nation International School (UNIS) in the mornings of 26 and 27/1./
