 International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2018

  •   International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2018 in Vietnam
  •

Designated by the United Nations, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed on January 27th around the world in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. (the murder of approximately six million Jews in Europe in the World War II by German-Nazis and their collaborators).

As an annual event, this year, the Embassy of Israel in cooperation with the Embassy of Czech Republic in Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held Holocaust Remembrance Day under the theme "Whoever saves one life, save the world entire" with the screening of an Emmy winner documentary film called “Nicolas Winton - The Power of Good”. The film is narrated by one of the children whose life was saved by Sir Nicolas Winton, telling the story how a stock broker decided to save 669 people and what is the reason he kept it as a secret for so many years.

This is a great opportunity for Vietnamese friends to learn more about the Holocaust, to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and to acknowledge those who risked their lives and the lives of their families to save another human being.

Mr. Nadav Eshcar, Ambassador of Embassy of Israel to Vietnam would like to convey the message that "the Holocaust was a black period to humankind, a time where Jewish people have been tormented, exiled and persecuted, but even in those dark days beams of lights such as sir Nicolas Winton emerged, risking their own life in order to save others and re assuring faith in the human spirit"
