The Embassy of Israel, in partnership with the Central Youth Union, presents 23,000 cash crops to the farmers of the rural Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district, of Hoa Binh province on 13 December 2021. The program acts in support of the “Growing 1 billion trees” campaign, launched by former Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Hoa Binh Youth Union’s green movement.

The medium and long-term trees of michelia, acacia, chukrasia will cover the once empty hills of the poverty-clad villages with green. The 14 households who receive the trees are in the designated especially tough minor-ethnic area, and were growing short-term crops of low economic value such as corn and cassava. One third of the local 600 hectare previously used for orange planting have been demolished due to insufficient returns and now left waiting for conversion.

All staff of the Israeli Embassy are joined by 20 local Youth Union members, together with Hoa Binh’s leadership, to plant trees after the presentation, as part of the embassy’s annual good deeds day and enviroment/green agendas in Vietnam. The program extents its community significance by donating winter blankets to the 14 households.

The planting areas are adjacent to the Da River primitive forest. By covering such hills, the zone will also contribute to making the environment greener, solidifying soil hardness, and lowering the possibility of landslide.

Israel is a country traditionally deprived of lush greenery and water. This activity reasserts the Embassy of Israel’s commitment to bringing its expertise and making an effort to help its friends in Vietnam.

On the same day, the delegation of the Embassy, local leaders and the Youth Union will visit an Israeli-made demonstration of biogas device set-up in a farm of Cao Phong district. The convenient biogas is hoped to attract local farmers towards an effective process of generating and saving energy.
