Travel document - Explanations
A Travel document (Teudat Ma'avar bimkom Darkon Leumi) is a document that issued in place of a passport for those Israeli citizens in exceptional circumstances. They are normally valid for two years, the maximum extension is 5 years.
These circumstances include:
a) In the first year after migration or have not settled in Israel.
b) Israeli citizens who have lost or destroyed more than two passports - The travel document would be valid for two weeks for returning to Israel.
c) Israeli citizens who are naturalized, have received a passport but do not show an intention of settling in Israel.
Mutual agreements between Israel and other countries, regarding the exemption from visas, do not apply to this Travel document. You should check whether you need a visa in advance.
If you have one of these exceptional circumstances and require a travel document in lieu of passport please contact our consular assistant on consular@canberra.mfa.gov.il
