Passports and Travel Documents

    Passports cannot be extended over five years from the date of issuance of the passport.


    A passport issued abroad will only be used for five years! After five years, a new passport must be applied for!


    1. The travel documents issued by the State of Israel to its citizens (passports and laissez-passer) are the property of the State and should be carefully safeguarded.

    2. Note that Israeli citizens are required by law always to enter and exit Israel with an Israeli travel document.

    3. An Israeli passport issued to an adult or a minor is valid for five years. If five years have passed since the passport was issued, please see below what is required to apply for a NEW passport. 

    4. If less than five years have elapsed since the passport was issued, it can be extended up to the full five years. for example: If the passport was issued in 2021 until 2022, it can be extended until 2026 (A total of 5 years). An extension is free of charge and no need for new photos.

    WHO CAN RENEW A PASSPORT BY MAILING IT 

    If you answer 'Yes' to ALL questions below you can apply for a new passport by mail:
     
    1. You are 18 y/o or older. (For minors, in person only, with a parent).

    2. You have established your military status. (Relevant mostly to 17-25 y/o).

    3. You have your passport in your Possession to submit with your application. (Not first passport, not stolen or lost).

    4. The passport is undamaged other than normal wear and tear.

    5. You traveled to Israel at least once in the last 10 years.

     

    In all other cases that do not meet the conditions written above, applications for travel documents or passports can be done only in person at the consulate. You must make an appointment in advance through the website. 

    Each application will be reviewed to check the citizen's eligibility for a travel document, the type of document, and its validity.

    4. The passport you have in your possession
    5. Prepaid envelope with your address
    Passports for adults / minors issuing abroad will be valid for a maximum of 5 years. After 5 years application for a NEW passport is needed.

    The payment of the fees for consular services must be made in advance by bank transfer or in cash at the consulate.

     

    Transfers and payments are accepted in Swiss Francs only.​
    Applicants under 18

    Application in person only, child and parents. 

    If the parents are registered as married in the Israeli system, one of the parents can be present with the minor.



    Stolen, lost, or damaged passport:

    If your travel document has been lost stolen or damaged while abroad, you must appear at the nearest Israeli mission to issue a new travel document.

    You will need the following items with you:

    1. Formal ID with a picture.

    2. Two new passport photos.
