Military Status
According to Israeli legislation, any individual who is eligible for military service and resides abroad must report to the nearest Consulate when they reach the age of 16 years and 5 months to address their military status.
The designation of "Child of Immigrants" is bestowed upon an Israeli citizen born in a foreign country or an Israeli citizen who, before reaching the age of 16, emigrated from Israel alongside their parents for the purpose of immigration.
There are certain circumstances in which an individual eligible for military service may not automatically receive this status or may need to provide additional documentation to acquire it.
These circumstances encompass the following situations:
• In cases where one of the parents resides within Israel, the eligible individual must substantiate that their primary residence is with the parent living outside of Israel
• Both of the parents have established their residency in Israel
• When an individual does not meet the criteria for being classified as a child of immigrants, they have the option to request a deferral to allow them to complete their high school education abroad.
If a person of eligible age happens to be in Israel during this period, they should report to the closest Recruitment Office.
An individual that is not given the status of a child of immigrants, is not eligible for a deferral and must return to Israel.
