    Passport acquisition and renewal procedure:

On June 1st, 2017 the Israeli passport law was changed, requiring that henceforth only biometric passports be issued.
However, Israel’s embassies are not yet capable of issuing such passports.
For this reason, Israeli citizens currently visiting Japan as tourists can receive, in case of emergency, a passport valid for one year or a onetime pass allowing them to return to Israel only.
Israeli citizens living in Japan as residents may receive at present a regular passport valid for no more than 5 years.
In order for the embassy to issue a 5 year passport we henceforth require that applicants provide, along with the required form and 2 passport photos (5X5cm), proof of residency.

In order to prove residence you must present your resident card (known in Japanese as Zairyu Kado). If your card, and thus visa, are about to expire please notify us about whether you intend to renew it or not.

You can download the application form and instructions from the following links.

Please come to the embassy with all the forms and the necessary documents.

*1 Non-Japanese residents of Japan must apply in person at the embassy. Additionally, applicants by a third party are not accepted. (Depanding on your background, an interview at the embassy may not be necessary. Please be sure to send an email for confirmation before applying).

    2. Please send the application documents by post (現金書留). (Please note that depending on your nationality, you may need to apply directly at the embassy. Whether or not you need to visit the embassy will be determined after checking the documents.)

    3. Please be sure to prepare exact application fee, and send it together with the above documents in a registered letter (現金書留) to the following address. It is permissible to send coins. However, forbidden to tape them down.

    4. If you wish to apply directly at the embassy due to unavoidable circumstances, please be sure to make an appointment in advance by phone or email.

    5. If your residence card is valid for less than 2 months, you may be asked to extend the validity period at the discretion of the consular.
