Tonight we mark Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.

According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person's fate for the coming year on Rosh Hashanah, and seals the verdict on Yom Kippur. On this day, Jews pray for forgiveness for sins against God and correct wrongful actions against their fellow men.

For nearly 26 hours, Jews abstain from food and drink, abstain from marital relations and spend the day in a synagogue, saying special prayers for forgiveness. Many Jews have the custom of wearing white to the synagogue to symbolize the purity they hope to attain by the end of the day.

We wish Jews in Israel and around the world a meaningful and peaceful Yom Kippur!!.

Gmar Hatima Tova - May you be inscribed in the book of life.
