    Statement by Ambassador Sammy Revel

Regretfully, AKEL published today one more statement that does not reflect the reality on the Palestinian issue. For the sake of those interested in reality, here are the facts:

    1. For more than 100 years, Palestinians refuse to recognize the right of existence of the Homeland of the Jewish People. AKEL refers to the 1967 war against Israel, which was a key moment when they turned their back on Peace or recognition of Israel.

    2. United States President Trump’s Middle East Peace Plan opens a new opportunity. This is widely welcomed in Israel. Regrettably, once again the Palestinian leadership rejects direct negotiations and opposed the plan even before it was published.

    3. The American proposal takes seriously crucial Israeli security concerns and the need to disarm Palestinian Terror organizations, such as the Hamas. Solid security is vital for the stability of the region and for Peace.

    4. Israel and Cyprus, also through the Trilateral with Greece, share the vision of Security, Stability and Prosperity in our common region. Working jointly, together with other Peace partners in the Middle East, we can make this dream a reality.

    5. It is due time that the Palestinian leadership stops missing every opportunity and condemns its people to political dead end.

As AKEL sees itself a supporter of the Palestinian people, it’s messages should clearly state that their purpose will be better served if they stop Anti-Israel incitement, put an end to violence and abandon their constant refusal to embrace any new horizon for a better future.
