A special musical event between Israel and
Cyprus was held on Sunday, 30 June 2019, at the Pattichion Municipal
Amphitheater of Larnaca. Renowned Cypriot singer Stella Georgiadou and popular Israeli
singer Shlomi Saranga joined together and sang wonderful Greek songs.
The concert was co-organized by the Embassy of
Israel in Cyprus and the Municipality of Larnaca, as part of the broader
co-operation and joint implementation of actions in the fields of education,
culture, society, economy and tourism.
Around 700
people attended the event, among them, the Minister of Education and Culture
Mr. Kostas
Champiaouris, the Minister
of Transport, Communications and Works, Mrs. Vassiliki Anastasiadou, the Deputy
Minister of Tourism Mr Savvas Perdios, the President of the Supreme Court, senior
officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps and many friends of Israel.
Addressing the audience, the Ambassador of
Israel to Cyprus Mr Sammy Revel noted that "with this concert we celebrate
the friendship between Cyprus and Israel, and the close connection between our
two countries through music," and expressed the will for broader
tightening of the ties between the two countries.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the President
of the Republic of Cyprus, the Minister of Education and Culture Mr. Kostas
Champiaouris said “it is evident
that Cyprus and Israel are indeed in tune, and not just in music,” adding that
“the friendship between Cyprus and Israel has truly blossomed in recent years.
In the context of this blossoming friendship and cooperation, our cultural and
people-to-people ties have grown tremendously, and I am confident that they
will continue to expand, including through such events.”
Finally, Mayor
of Larnaca Mr. Andreas Vyras referred to the close relationship between Cyprus
and Israel, pointing out that “this evening is extremely important as it does
not only mark the continuance of a stronger bonding between Larnaca and Israel
but it is a sincere action indicative of the fact that the relationship and
friendship between us remains as strong as ever.”
The concert of friendship was a memorable
evening full of sounds of Greek music, that binds Israelis and Cypriots.
