On Thursday, 27 January, 2022, Cyprus' House of Representatives honoured International Holocaust Remembrance Day by observing a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

Addressing the plenary, President of the House Annita Demetriou said that more than six million Jews, were the tragic victims of the systematic and methodical barbaric plan of the Nazi regime, which turned racial hatred into an attempt to extinguish Jewish people, something that constitutes a crime against humanity.

The President of the House also referred to the Parliament’s duty to share historical memory and knowledge, to abstain from all forms of extremism and violence, to fight hard and to resist all forms of racism, intolerance and discrimination and to highlight mutual respect and consensus as the only option.
