In the context of the 20th World Conference of Overseas Cypriots, Presidential Commissioner, Photis Photiou held a meeting on Wednesday, 28 August, 2019, with the young people of Cyprus, Greece and Israel’s diasporas, in the presence of representatives of the Embassy of Israel and the Embassy of Greece in Nicosia. After the meeting, Photiou said that a trilateral cooperation mechanism established between Cyprus, Greece and Israel on the Diaspora is becoming a reality and that he feels “very proud” of these young people. During the meeting he had with the young people, he said, “I have realized that the goal we set for our trilateral cooperation is implemented and becoming a reality.” Speaking about the programme entitled “Common Journey to our Roots” in the context of which young people of the diaspora have first visited Israel, Greece and now Cyprus, he said the experiences they have gained are great. Photiou also announced that more such trilateral cooperation visits will take place soon in Australia, Canada, US and UK.
The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Israel in Nicosia Mrs Noga Caspi, expressed Israel’s “support of this cooperation between our three countries, this alliance.” Referring to the young people of the three Diasporas she pointed out that “we see them as future ambassadors for conveying the messages of our countries.” Mrs Caspi’s statement:
“I would like to welcome this delegation to Cyprus after they visited Israel and Greece and their excellent experiences as we heard from them today. We support this cooperation between our three countries, this alliance which also expands into the diaspora field. We see them as future ambassadors of conveying the messages of our homelands of the countries of Cyprus, Greece and Israel. Also this networking connected between all of them, which will be the future for them in their homelands”.
On his part, Anastassios Konstantaras, 2nd Secretary from the Greek Embassy in Nicosia said that during the meeting “we had the opportunity to discuss many issues regarding the possibilities for cooperation between the young people of the diasporas in the countries they come from.” He also expressed his belief that “in future they will a play a very important role,” adding that “we are counting on their help and cooperation.”
In a brief statement Giannis Christodoulides member of the Board of NEPOMAK in America said he speaks on behalf of all the young people who are in Cyprus representing the Diaspora when he says how happy they are that this trilateral cooperation mechanism was established and he expressed the hope that in future it will grow and become even more important.
