The Embassy of Israel organized a reception for the 75th anniversary
of Israel's Independence Day, in the presence of Ministers, foreign and Cypriot diplomats, officials and many friends
The guest of
honor, Minister of Defense Mr. Michalis Giorgallas spoke of the cooperation
between the two countries, "which has in an impressive way reached new higher
levels, in a large number of sectors such as energy, defense, tourism, cyber
security, business and innovation", as he said.
In the
speech, the Ambassador of Israel to Cyprus, Mr. Oren Anolik, referred to the
recent visit of President Christodoulides to Israel, and pointed out that
beyond its symbolic nature, the visit is a confirmation of the deep strategic
alliance between the two countries.
"The
fact that President Christodoulides visited Israel, during a period when
Israeli citizens were being attacked by rockets fired from Gaza, received
special appreciation and recognition from the government and the people of the
country," he said.
The Ambassador took the opportunity to "deliver" a Hebrew lesson. Three
key words, the knowledge of which can help to better understand the country and
the people: Chutzpah = audacity, Tou'shiya = ingenuity and Hev're = company.
"The
blending of these three elements (Chutzpah, Tushiya and Hev're) defines our
character," he explained. A dynamic and vibrant society, innovative
mindset, and strong social ties."
"Speaking
of social ties, he continued, I believe that Israel's real strength lies in its
people and its social diversity, with people from various ethnic, religious,
cultural and social backgrounds."
This aspect
is highlighted by the outdoor photography exhibition "Diversity: A State
of Mind" by Israeli photographers Natan Dvir & Gabi Ben Avraham,
presented these days in Eleftheria Square, in the center of Nicosia.
Israel's
'birthday' celebrations will continue throughout 2023 and culminate in the
Nicosia International Festival, with Israel as the country of honour, in a
series of outstanding performances, including the renowned Kibbutz Dance Group
and the National . Habima Theater.
In
conclusion, Ambassador Anolik expressed his heartfelt appreciation for all
those who contributed to achieve the current level of friendship, expressed his
optimism for the future of this alliance, and wished cooperation and friendship
between the two states to continue to thrive.
