The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Cyprus, Mrs Yael Ravia-Zadok, made the following statement, on the passing away of Mr Shimon Peres:
“We mourn the loss of the 9th President Shimon Peres, one of the founding fathers of the State of Israel.
Each and every one of us Israelis carries a memory of Shimon Peres. To me, he was a beacon of wisdom, a man of vision, a statesman, who pursued his quest and desire for peace, for education, innovation, for shaping a world of hope and prosperity for the wellbeing of humanity. Throughout my diplomatic career I was privileged to accompany him in numerous official visits and meetings, witnessing in person how he was admired by international leaders who sought for his advice and insight. For me he was an inspiring role model to follow.
Shimon Peres was a genuine friend and advocate of Cyprus and the Cypriot people, who believed in the role that Cyprus should play in the region and beyond.
His voice may have gone silent, but his legacy and vision for peace will live on and pave the way for the generations to come.
May he rest in peace.”
