Despite Rockets, Goods Continue to Flow into Gaza

  •   Israel continues to deliver aid via the Kerem Shalom crossing to Gaza

Rockets will not prevent Israel from continuing to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Today, Israel has sent two hundred trucks carrying food, medical supplies and 200,000 liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip. The trucks are carrying a far greater supply of food and aid than normal, so that residents of Gaza will have enough to eat in case the IDF launches a ground assault against Hamas. All of the trucks carrying humanitarian aid are entering through the Kerem Shalom crossing, an area often targeted by Hamas for missile attacks. The workers at the crossing are Israeli and have been given special safety instructions, so that they can continue to provide aid to Gaza despite the ongoing threat of terrorism.

The IDF has also assisted 240 Palestinians of foreign citizenship in evacating Gaza. Last, Israel, which supplies electricity to Gaza, has not taken steps to cut off the energy supply.

Moreover, despite an onslaught of 300 rockets hitting Israel, the government has brought dozens of Palestinians, including eight children, to be treated for injuries at Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center. Out of compassion for the innocent civilians in Gaza, Israel has consulted the Red Cross, which will be touring Gaza tomorrow. The Red Cross along with Israel will look for ways to continue to provide Gazans with basic necessities despite the Hamas’ terror attacks. In concert with USAID, Israel is looking to other nations to supplement Israel’s aid and help provide diesel fuel, ambulances, and additional aid to the people of Gaza.

In sharp contrast to the IDF's concern for the civilian population in Gaza, Hamas, continues to urge civilians to act as human shields and has often placed them directly in harm’s way.
