The Embassy of Israel in New Delhi is renewing the
search for the next Startup to represent India in the biggest international
startup competition in Israel – Start JLM.
Following the success of Start TLV, bringing startups
from around the world to present their innovation on a unique international
platform, the municipality of Jerusalem has opened its startup ecosystem to the
world. Entrepreneurs from 40 countries will take part in an all-expenses paid
trip to Jerusalem to attend a boost camp for early stage startups.
The Start JLM competition in India was launched this week, with the finals to be held in New Delhi on September 28th, 2017. The Embassy of Israel is heading the search in cooperation with the Indian Government’s Department of Science & Technology (DST) with the aim of bringing together India and Israel’s startup ecosystems. The DST will also provide the 5 top startups competing in the finals in Delhi free access to one of India’s prominent incubators.
Ambassador Daniel Carmon commented on the event: “Innovation is one of the main pillars in the
Indo-Israeli relations and was proudly featured in Prime Minister Modi’s visit
to Israel last month. Start JLM is one of the many ways we are integrating
Indian and Israel Innovation for a common good. We invite young Indian
innovators to come to the ancient city of Jerusalem to join hands with Israeli
and international entrepreneurs alike in shaping a better future for the
world.”
This competition is a reflection of the prominence of
innovation in the Indo-Israeli bilateral relations as was evident in the visit
of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to Israel in July. Cooperation on
Innovation is mentioned in the joint statement given by both prime ministers in
Israel, and is a precursor to bilateral cooperation in water and agriculture as
well.
