As Israel ushers in New Year 2019, its population stands at 9 million and consists of a diverse society of 74.3% Jews, 20.9% Arabs and an overall population growth of 2%.
Key highlights:
- On 31 December 2018, the population in Israel was estimated at approximately 8.972 million residents.
- Of those, 6.668 million are Jews (74.3% of the total population), 1.878 million are Arabs (20.9%) and 426,000 are classified as "Others" (4.8%).
- The population in Israel grew during 2018 by approximately 2.0%. Natural increase accounted for 81% of the growth and 19% was accounted for by the international migration balance.
- Approximately 185,000 infants were born during the year (74.4% Jews, 22.8% Arabs, and 2.8% Others).
- Approximately 28,000 new immigrants arrived in Israel during 2018.
