Israel and Rajasthan to boost cooperation

Ambassador Daniel Carmon met with the Honorable Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ms. Vasundhara Raje, at Bikaner House in New Delhi on August 30th.
This was part of a series of meetings aimed at further developing the collaboration between Rajasthan and the State of Israel.
Israel and Rajasthan share similar development challenges including scarcity of water sources due to similar arid environment. Despite these challenges, Israel was able to turn much of its arid land into fertile agricultural soil with amongst the highest yield in the world and has been cooperating with Rajasthan on these issues for many years.
The Israeli Ambassador briefed the Chief Minister on the Centers of Excellence (CoE) operating in Rajasthan. These Centers, specializing in citrus fruits, dates and pomegranates, serve as a platform for transferring Israeli know-how and technologies to local farmers. Among other things, Mr. Carmon spoken with the CM about two new Centers of Excellence in Rajasthan focusing on vegetables and mangos. Each CoE has a direct positive influence on the livelihood of the community and the environment. Farmers benefiting from these centers enjoy better crops (in quantity as well as in quality) and thus higher income. Ambassador Carmon has also shared his vision of replicating the CoE model into a private sector-led collaboration between Rajasthani and Israeli companies.
The Honorable Chief Minister briefed the Ambassador on the upcoming 'Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet 2016' (GRAM), scheduled to be held in Jaipur from 9th to 11th November. The prime objective of 'GRAM' is to expose farming communities to technological advancements and global best practices in farming and allied activities, while showcasing investment opportunities in the state. Ambassador Carmon promised to encourage Israeli companies to attend the event.
The CM and the Ambassador shared the hope that the future will see the continuation and the intensification of the partnership between Rajasthan and Israel and for that purpose have committed to support the work of an inter-disciplinary working group of the Government of Rajasthan and the Embassy of Israel.
