BANGALORE: In its first-ever tie-up with an Indian state, Israel has entered into a cooperation agreement with Karnataka to further bilateral business, technology, and economic relations. The agreement envisages Israel benefiting from Karnataka's human resources and the latter from Israeli innovations.

The agreement was announced at a workshop - Karnataka-Israel R&D Co-operation Program - which was jointly organized by the department of science and technology, Government of Karnataka and MATIMOP (Israeli Industry Centre for R&D), here on Tuesday.

Inked in March, the agreement will facilitate financial support worth millions of dollars for cooperative research and development projects in the coming years.
"It is significant that Israel's first co-operation agreement with an Indian state is with Karnataka. This is a pioneering achievement and a tangible step in stimulating collaboration in areas of mutual benefit, especially elite technologies in which Israel and India both excel," said Menahem Kanafi, Consul General of Israel, Bangalore.

The agreement, which will be promoted and implemented by MATIMOP, will also see the participation of two autonomous organizations under the department of science and technology, Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).
