    Delegations of the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel held the first ever bilateral consultations in Colombo on Friday, April 20th, 2012, to discuss ways and means of promoting bilateral relations between the two countries. 
     
    The two sides discussed opportunities for further cooperation in a range of fields such as agriculture, tourism, trade, employment, etc. Regional issues were discussed as well.
     
    The two delegations have expressed confidence that the annual consultations will provide a solid platform to further strengthen their multifaceted relations and promote closer economic cooperation for mutual benefit. The next bilateral consultation will be held in Jerusalem in 2013.
     
    Secretary to the External Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka, Mr. Karunatilaka Amunugama, led the Sri Lankan delegation comprising senior officials from several Ministries and Government Agencies.
     
    Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Ms. Ruth Kahanoff, headed the Israeli delegation, which comprised of the Israeli Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr. Alon Ushpiz, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.
