Difference between a Renewal of a Traveling Documents to an Extension

A travel document (passport or laissez-passer) issued outside of Israel (non-biometric) can be valid for up to 5 years from the day of its issue.

If you hold a valid travel document for less than 5 years from the day of its issue, your travel document may be eligible for an extension.

Example of a travel document eligible for an extension:

A passport, non-biometric, that was issued in Atlanta on 02.22.2017 may be eligible for an extension until 02.20.2022

Example of a travel document not eligible for an extension:

A passport, non-biometric that was issued in Atlanta on 01.30.2012 is unsuitable for an extension since its extended date is smaller than the current year.

Information about A One-Time Entry Document

A one-time entry document can be issued for an Israeli citizen, valid for 14 days from the issuance, and can be used only to fly to Israel on a direct flight (in some cases, a short layover is possible).

For your Attention: Most police officers worldwide report to the global Interpol in Lyon, France, on any stolen/lost citizens' passports. If your passport has been reported stolen/lost by you to the local police or the police in Israel, know that it's been reported to the global Interpol, and this passport is no longer valid. If you find your passport after reporting to the police, using the passport might cause delays in entering/departing from the borders of many countries. You must renew the passport in one of the Consulates or Embassies worldwide or in the Ministry of Interior in Israel. (last update: February 2019)
